Islamabad is known as the capital of Pakistan. It was built in 1960 at the foot of the Margalla Hills. Rawalpindi and Islamabad started their rapid growth with a combined population of 1.3 million.

The city’s construction combined traditional Islamic architecture and modern patterns. At the time, three world-renowned names were involved in town planning and architecture: Konstantínos Doxiádes, Edward Durell Stone, and Gio Ponti.

Islamabad’s urban area is divided into eight zones: administrative, diplomatic, residential, institutional, industrial, and commercial areas, a greenbelt, and a national park. The area includes an Olympic village and gardens (dairy, poultry, and vegetable farms). It also includes institutions like the Atomic Research Institute and the National Health Centre.

As the city delves into so much peace within its land, it is named Islamabad. It means the City of Islam or the City of Peace. The name is based on the country’s ideology.
